Roberto Martinez has no regrets about Sam Byram joining West Ham and insists a move to Everton wasn’t right for the player, or Everton.
Martinez: “Sam’s situation was one, as in many occasions, we were first to identify a good potential footballer in the Championship,’ said Martinez. ‘We went through the correct procedures and we established a good relationship with Leeds.
“But in the end it wasn’t the right move for Sam and he wasn’t the right player for us with the squad that we have and that was end of the matter, really. I’m pleased that we were at the forefront of identifying a player who has terrific potential but it was not right for both parties.”
Asked if it had anything to do with not being able to promise regular starts, Martinez said: “I haven’t got a crystal ball, but I can always give a correct path for a youngster to fulfil potential their potential as a footballer. But, as you know, the player needs to earn that opportunity to play on the pitch.
“As I say it wasn’t right as a football club to bring a young talent for the sake of it and it was not right for Sam to come to Everton. I don’t think it was a challenge he could embrace.”

Everton should have cashed in on Stones. We have better centre backs than him.
The money that has come in to that club means that they do not need to be a selling club unless it's for silly money.

yep, some Iranian billionaire who was a major shareholder at Arsenal sold up his Arsenal stake and bought I think it was 49.6% stake in Everton. It got approved by the PL yesterday I think.
This is a game changer for them. I thought Lukaku would be off in the summer, not so sure now.
I reckon if this bloke is going to shove a bundle of cash into the club he will have serious ambitions. I'd be very worried if I was Martinez

Haven't Everton got themselves a new billionaire?! I'm guessing they won't be selling anyone right now.
Maybe he will want a new broom. Certainly Martinez is clearly feeling the pressure, given he's got probably the best Everton team in nearly 30 years in the worst Premier League in 30 years and they are bottom half.
Sure he will probably start next season at Derby or somewhere.

Why on earth Lukaku wants to stay there is baffling. He could have lots of clubs willing to break the bank for him. I'm not convinced Stones is a great defender however. Give me Ginge any day( and Reid,and Tomkins,and Ogbonna,and Oxford,and Burke)

I never realised how unpopular he was with Everton fans until this weekend.
If they lose Lukaku and Stones in the summer they could be in trouble next season.

Because things are not going well for him. It's a natural human reaction to lash out at the closest thing or person to them when they don't get their way.
You either have to be very dignified like Pellegrini, Bilic or Ranieri or you have to work really hard at not allowing your emotions to make you look like a petulant child. Martiniez is obviously not working hard enough at doing that.

Agree with than Chim. If Martinez really wants to address why they lost that game then instead of lashing out at others like an irrational child he would have them in extra early on Monday and work on defending crosses because his team were hopeless at it on Saturday.

I didn't think he was in any way looking at the sack until I read an Everton forum after the game. I'm surprised, but a lot of their fans want him gone. I'm not really qualified to talk about a manager of a rival club as I wouldn't want to sound as stupid as rival fans sound when they talk to me about Allardyce.
I was wondering why a manager I usually couldn't give a fuck about feels he has to come out and sound so childish as he did about Sam Byram and Dimi- like they were not really considered good enough so they magnanimously let them come to our two-bob club.
This lashing out indiscriminately at us, our players, the ref, the penalty etc is the kind of stuff that gets brandished about before someone gets given their P45.
After what he's been saying, it can't come soon enough. The cunt.

Personally, I'm loving the fact that all these managers of teams who regularly beat us now seem to be sore losers and can't take the fact that they have lost to 'little old West Ham.'
